Your Simple Guide to Keeping Boxing Gear Clean, Fresh, and Long-Lasting

Your Simple Guide to Keeping Boxing Gear Clean, Fresh, and Long-Lasting

Combat sports involve movement, intensity, and gear that work just as hard as you do. Whether you’re boxing, training in Muay Thai, or working the bag at home, your gloves, wraps, and workout clothes need care to stay fresh and in good condition.

With a few simple habits, you can prevent buildup, reduce odours, and extend the life of your gear, without making it overly complicated.

Gloves: Keep Them Fresh Between Sessions

Gloves trap moisture, and without proper care, they can develop unpleasant odours. Here’s how to keep yours feeling and smelling fresh:

  • Wipe the inside with alcohol wipes after each session. (Use sparingly to avoid drying out the lining!)
  • Let them air out right away - Open them up near a fan or sunny window!
  • Use a boot dryer overnight to make sure they’re fully dry.
  • Try glove deodorizers, like cedar inserts/charcoal pouches, to absorb moisture and maintain a neutral scent!
  • Avoid the washing machine, soaking, or leaving them in a hot car.

Hand Wraps: Wash Often, Rotate Regularly

Wraps support your hands and help keep gloves cleaner, but only if they’re washed consistently:

  • Place them in a mesh laundry bag and machine wash after each use.
  • Air dry to protect their stretch and shape.
  • Keep 2–3 pairs on you so you're never short between washes.

Workout Clothes: Stay Comfortable, Smell Clean

Training clothes, especially synthetic fabrics, can hold onto odours after washing. A few small changes can make a huge difference:

  • Hang them up to air out as soon as possible after training.
  • If they’re extra damp, pre-soak in cold water with vinegar for 15–30 minutes.
  • Use detergent made for activewear to remove persistent odours.

Wrapping It Up

Fresh gear not only boosts your confidence but also enhances your training experience. With just a few easy habits, you can keep everything clean, breathable, and in excellent condition for a long time.
