How to Clean Hand Wraps and Keep Them Fresh After Training
After a good boxing/ Muay Thai/ kickboxing session, your hand wraps usually absorb a lot of sweat. Even if they do not look dirty right away, they can still hold moisture, odor, and bacteria from training.
Cleaning your hand wraps regularly is a small habit, but it can make a big difference. It helps keep your gear fresher, makes your gloves smell better, and gives you a more comfortable feeling every time you train.
Why You Should Wash Your Hand Wraps
Hand wraps sit directly on your skin and are worn inside your gloves. During training, they absorb sweat from your hands and wrists. If you leave them in your gym bag after class, they may start to smell and feel uncomfortable the next time you use them.
Washing your wraps also helps protect your boxing gloves. Since wraps absorb a lot of sweat, clean wraps can reduce how much moisture goes into your gloves.
How to Wash Hand Wraps
The easiest way to clean hand wraps is to wash them after training or at least after every few sessions.
Before washing, close the Velcro so it does not stick to other fabric. You can also place your wraps in a small laundry bag to prevent them from tangling in the washing machine.
Use cold water and mild detergent. Avoid bleach or strong chemicals, because they may damage the fabric or make the wraps feel rough on your skin.
After washing, let your wraps air dry completely before using them again. Try not to leave them wet or folded up, because moisture can create odor quickly.

What to Avoid
Avoid throwing sweaty wraps straight into your gym bag and forgetting about them. This is one of the fastest ways for them to smell bad.
You should also avoid using a dryer on high heat, as it may affect the stretch, shape, or Velcro over time. Air drying is usually the safest option.
If your wraps still smell bad after washing, or if the fabric becomes too loose and no longer gives enough support, it may be time to replace them.
Make Clean Wraps Part of Your Routine
Cleaning your hand wraps does not take much effort, but it helps your whole training routine feel better. Fresh wraps feel more comfortable, keep your gloves cleaner, and make you feel more ready for your next class.
It can also be helpful to keep an extra pair of hand wraps in your training bag, especially if you train often. This way, you do not have to reuse sweaty wraps while waiting for another pair to dry.
